The Simmons Strong Foundation was founded to honor the life and legacy of Jim Simmons, by providing scholarships to local high school and college student-athletes that exemplify the values Jim lived throughout his life, and by giving financial assistance to community members experiencing hardships due to cancer treatment/diagnosis.
STUDENT-ATHLETE scholarships
Slim, as he was known by his friends and family, edged, honed and sculpted the lives of the students entrusted to his care with the same energy and devotion he committed to maintaining the ball fields. By providing scholarships to local high school and college student-athletes, The Simmons Strong Foundation, Inc. hopes to continue to impact lives in education.
The Simmons Strong Foundation currently sponsors five annual scholarships. Eligible scholarship recipients include Effingham County High School baseball and softball student-athletes, Statesboro High School baseball and softball student-athletes and Georgia Southern baseball student-athletes. The scholarship committee works directly with each institution to solicit applications for upcoming scholarships. FAMILIES FACING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP
To honor Slim’s heroic decade long battle with cancer, the Simmons Strong Foundation, Inc. recognizes the many hardships that families can face when going through the same thing. Families in the local Statesboro, Georgia community can apply to receive support for life’s basic necessities such as food, rent, transportation, etc.
The Simmons Strong Foundation strives to provide non-medical financial assistance to patients and families that are struggling financially as a result of a cancer diaganois. Eligible patients must meet the following critieria:
Reside or be in employed in Bulloch or Effingham County
Have a cancer diagnosis, certified by a healthcare provider.
Be in active treatement, have completed treatment within the past 12 months, or have been admitted to hospice care.
To apply, please fill out the Patient Financial Assistance application along with your referring professional and return to board@simmonsstrong.org.
